There are many excellent restaurants in the area offering typical dishes such as, you will find information about these walks in the Posada. There are also various local companies that organise activities such as horse riding or canoeing on the Tietar river or the Rosarito reservoir.
The Candeleda golf club, only ten minutes away from the Posada is a municipal 9 hole course with spectacular views of the Gredos Mountains. Thirty minutes drive away there is the Talayuela golf club, a beautiful 18 hole course.
The area is also special for birdwatchers because of the great variety of birds, including two species which are in danger of extinction : the eagle (aquila Adalberti) and the black stork.
In the hotter months, the natural pools are the major attraction for visitors to the area.
The caves at Grutas del Aguila in Arenas de San Pedro with their spectacular stalactites and stalacmites are well worth a visit.
As well as the the natural beauty of the area, there are also quaint villages worth walking around, Candeleda as well as the villages of the Valle de la Vera with their narrow streets and traditional arquitecture.
The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Chilla, a short drive from Candeleda is in a beautiful spot with oaks and chestnut trees, and paths leading further up the mountain.
Very close to the village of El Raso are the ruins of a Celtic village from the V century, the views across the valley and up the mountains are very beautiful.
The Roman bridge at Madrigal de la Vera crossing the Alardos river is also known as the ‘old bridge’ and is part of the Roman road which joins Plasencia over the Gredos mountains to Avila.
On the road to Plasencia, in Cuacos de Yuste the road leads to the Yuste Monastery, one of the Royal Convents where the Emperor Charles V of Germany spent his last days, and not far beyond is the quaint village of Garganta La Olla.
